Katarina started skating when she was five years old. Her talent soon became obvious, and she gained entry into a school specifically designed that caters to children who have a passion for sport in Karl-Marx-Stadt. Here she first saw her teacher Jutta M ller. Witt made her mark when she was ranked second in the 1982 World Championships, held in Copenhagen. Her graceful and elegant style caught everyone's attention, and from that point onwards she was dominating the competition. Olympic Erfolg In Sarajevo, at the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal for women's figure-skating in a highly competitive contest. In a tighter competition the following year, Witt was awarded the gold medal. The free skater lost however she was awarded the gold medal in the figures that were compulsory and her short programme. Witt is the only female figure skater to win the same event twice since Sonja Heine. Hall of Fame Witt had a great deal of success as an acting career, but she returned to her sport for competition at her participation in the Lillehammer Winter Games of 1994. Although she didn't win a single medal, she enchanted fans despite finishing seventh. Witt was inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame by its members in 1995.
